The programme for the International Conference on Metadata and Semantics Research (MTSR'16) has been published. The MTSR celebrates its 10th anniversary and will take place at the Goettingen State and University Library in Goettingen (Germany) on November 22-25, 2016.
In line with the conference’s theme “Learning from the Past, Building the Future” the recently published MTSR programme covers topics like metadata, ontologies, Semantic Web, linked data, data repositories, digital libraries, knowledge management and software engineering.
The conference will offer workshops, several tracks and sessions with expert presentations, poster sessions and a panel session that will bring together scholars and practitioners of the domain. The first day of the conference (Tuesday the 22nd of November 2016) is dedicated to workshops while the main conference will start on Wednesday the 23rd of November 2016.
The main conference will be opened by the Director of Göttingen State and University LibraryWolfram Horstmann, and the General Chair of the conference Emmanouel Garoufallou who is the Deputy Head and Division Leader of the Department of Library Science and Information Systems from the Alexander Technological Educational Institute of Thessaloniki. One of the keynote speakers, Philipp Cimiano from Bielefeld University will thereafter open the presentations with a speech about “Lemon: a Lexicon Model for Ontologies”.
The event will continue with three presentations in the general session “Semantic Data Management, Big Data and Scalability”. In the afternoon the participants can visit two special tracks about “Cultural Collections & Applications” and “Digital Libraries, Information Retrieval, Big, and Linked & Social Data”.
The second conference day will provide presentations on “Synthesis of semantic models” and “Information Extraction and Retrieval”. The whole afternoon is reserved for a special track on “Metadata and Semantics for Agriculture, Food & Environment”. The participants are welcomed to join the conference gala dinner in the evening.
The last day will begin with a track on “Metadata & Semantics for Open Repositories, Research Information Systems and Data Infrastructures”. Subsequently ten posters and wall charts will be presented during the poster session followed by a panel discussion and final remarks to close the conference.
This year, the MTSR celebrates its 10th anniversary in the historical building “Paulinerkirche” of the Goettingen State and University Library.
The event is co-chaired by the Emmanouel Garoufallou of the Alexander Technological Educational Institute of Thessaloniki (Thessaloniki, Greece), Imma Subirats of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (Roma, Italy), Armando Stellato of University of Rome Tor Vergata (Rome, Italy) and Jane Greenberg of Drexel University (Philadelphia, USA).
