Impact Stories
GODAN is a part of a larger group of actors working towards a world where the value chain for agriculture and nutrition is more efficient, innovative, equitable and accountable. Through improving the open availability, use and enrichment of data, and ensuring meaningful engagement with stakeholders, this vision can be achieved. Find out more about GODAN’s vision in its Theory of Change
Open data has already been shown to create impact in some parts of the value chain, and in other sectors. GODAN’s Impact can be segmented into four areas of work:
Convening – enabling key actors to come together
Empowering – encouraging the implementation of open data policies
Equipping – providing the means and resources for open data
Managing – ensuring outputs are managed to enable information sharing and reporting
CONVENING
GODAN has made significant impact through convening the ecosystem through bringing key actors together as members of the GODAN network.
Convening key actors includes providing space for conversations, priority setting, collaboration, products, advice/guidance to governments, direction to experts to support political, technical or other senior civil servants in the development of open data policies (and related mechanisms) and Agriculture and Nutrition.
In addition, we create connections across borders so regional/international policies can enable access, sharing and usage of data.

EMPOWERING
GODAN has made key progress through empowering the ecosystem through providing high level political and policy implementation support that enables action on the ground; unlocking greater data availability, creates public commitments from key actors, and creates funds for innovation as well as activities for men and women involved across the agriculture and nutrition ecosystem.
Through empowerment we turn Open Data aspirations into policies, legal and technical environments that allow their full implementation in the agriculture and nutrition sectors, convening working groups and other similar groups aimed at introducing regional/international open data policies.

EQUIPPING
GODAN has created impact by equipping the ecosystem, through collecting & compiling tools, stories, case studies, and papers as well as supporting farming associations to develop tools ranging from adapted technology, resources sharing (eg: drone use) and portals.
There has also been a focus on innovations that support women farmers and land workers and encouraging initiatives aiming at food waste reduction. We also arrange training designed for government officials in target countries so that Open Data is seen as key to increasing innovations in agriculture and nutrition.

MANAGING
Managing these outputs, sharing information and reporting on progress made through exploiting both GODAN’s growing social media footprint to promote innovations and through connecting to a wider audience through traditional media to increase knowledge, influence perceptions and build awareness of Open Data for agriculture and nutrition.
