Today’s Innovation is Tomorrow’s Normal

Open data initiatives often don’t follow a clear methodology to assess their impact. Nevertheless, insight into the (potential) impact of open data is key:

#1 to monitor and improve the performance of open data initiatives
#2 to assess the effectiveness of funding
#3 to demonstrate their value

The GODAN Action project has been focusing on addressing this need by producing a framework of impact evaluation.

Impact Evaluation Methods

GODAN Action is in the process of developing an innovative impact evaluation method. This work started by examining existing methods and cases, and was then trialled through the evaluation of the specific thematic topics that GODAN Action works on: weather data, land data and nutrition data. The project has been building on this work by creating an impact evaluation methodology that can be widely used for open data initiatives.
