From rising sea levels that increase the risk of flooding, to shifting weather patterns that complicate food production, climate change and its impacts are among the key issues of our time. According to the UN, sea level rise is predicted to rise by an average of 24–30 cm by 2065, and 40–63 cm by 2100. Without action today to better understand and manage not just our natural environment but all our shared ressources, adapting in the future is sure to be more difficult and costly.

This week marks the Second Annual Global World Commons Week. Across the globe, commons experts and practitioners are hosting local and digital events promoting discussion and enquiry into a wide variety of commons themes that will help us to better understand the world around us. The events will cover many thematic areas, including water, forests, fisheries and marine settings; the global atmosphere; infrastructure, urban and rural areas; technology and software; and knowledge sharing and co-production.

GODAN Chief Scientist, Dr Suchith Anand, will be delivering a presentation on Open Principles in Science and Education, as part of an online Conference programme organised by partners OSGeo for World Commons Week, on Thursday October 10, from 13h00-15h00 BST, entitled GeoForAll: Contributions to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
