As part of the Africa Geospatial and Internet Conference, GODAN, Datactivist and the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) are co-organising a 2-day Hackathon (#HackAGDIC) on the topic of Geospatial Data for Agriculture. More specifically exploring the question of how geospatial data can contribute to spatial planning for sustainable and responsible agriculture in Africa.
Registration for participants closes on October 16, 2019. Look here for more information or to register.
This event is open to everyone: industry experts, engineers, programmers, agricultural innovators, designers... anyone interested in using geospatial data for solving issues related to agriculture and development. The challenge involves creating a prototype of your idea - using geospatial data - in just 2 days. Support will be provided to explain the data and help get you started. You will be working in teams of 2-6 people, guided by international experts acting as mentors.
#HackAGDIC is the opportunity to mobilize collective intelligence in the fields of datavisualisation, statistics, geography or social sciences around agriculture and development issues.
The Challenges
The challenge topics are as follows:
-
Preserving natural resources: use geospatial data to identify protected areas such as forests, wild ecosystems and biodiversity.
-
Estimate land potential available for agriculture: use geospatial data to help determine zoning.
-
Deliver a resilient agriculture: using geospatial data to improve agriculture’s resilience in the face of a changing climate.
