This first Webinar in the Coffee Break series, titled Aligning AGROVOC and Ontologies to Connect Semantics to Improve Agrifood Data Annotation and Interoperability, will feature Pier Luigi Buttigieg, Helmholtz Metadata Collaboration / GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research. 

The participants will explore the question of whether it would be a good practice to semantically connect the FAO agricultural thesaurus AGROVOC with complementary ontologies.

While attempting to provide an answer to this question, participants will dive deeper into AGROVOC and similar quality ontologies providing richer semantic relationships, used to annotate data at a granular level. These resources share similar concepts but also provide domain-specific terms. 

Pier Luigi Buttigieg will share his opinion and present possible technical solutions for linking AGROVOC with ontologies, starting with the Agronomy Ontology.
