The Working Group on Saline Agriculture, under the framework of WASAG, will be leading the May 26 Webinar, aimed at sharing knowledge and experience on global projects related to saline farming, as well as smart digital approaches and solutions to the challenges.
About the Webinar
During this Webinar, the WASAG Working Group on Saline Agriculture will share knowledge and experience on global projects related to saline farming using salt-tolerant varieties of conventional crops and halophytes (highly salt-tolerant plants).
Under the COVID-19 pandemic with the imposed lockdowns, the food security of many communities is at stake, especially for outlying regions and communities, with some of them dependent on food imports. Within the comtext of these unprecedented and challenging conditions, it is important to explore how local food production could be enhanced by utilising even low-quality water and land resources, such as brackish groundwater and salt-affected soils. With the COVID-19 pandemic, a rapid increase in the digital technologies has also been observed. Smart digital approaches and saline farming initiatives will also be showcased in the Webinar.
