GODAN is thrilled to announce an important milestone in the development of our agriculture and nutrition Open Data advocacy community.

We would like to introduce our 900^th member to the rapidly-growing Global Open Data for Agriculture and Nutrition Network (GODAN)!

Our official 900^th Member - the Saudi Arabian National Fisheries Development Program (NFDP) - is a Division of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, and our first Saudi Arabian partner.  Saudi Arabia, like much of the Middle East, is a remarkable place for innovation in the agricultural sector. Despite the limitations imposed by a harsh climate, agriculture continues to develop and thrive, due in part to the growth of such technologies as electronic monitoring systems and smart irrigation.

The main mission of the Program, initiated in 1436 AH (or 2015 according to the Gregorian calendar), is to support the country’s sustainable development aims, increasing the contribution of the fisheries and aquaculture sector to the gross national product in of the Kingdom. This, in turn, will create job opportunities and strengthen food security in line with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 Objectives. We are delighted to have them on board and contributing to our network and knowledge of the region.

GODAN is a network of partners from over 115 countries worldwide. It is made up of representatives from government, international and private sector organisations all committed to making agricultural and nutrition-relevant data available, accessible and usable worldwide.
