Join the International Open Data Day community on March 5th

We celebrate International Open Data Day this year on Saturday, March 5th.

A global gathering, both on-the-ground and online, International Open Data Day is a day for citizens to get together and “write applications, liberate data, create visualizations and publish analyses” using open data to encourage the adoption of open data policies by governments world wide [1].

It is a day for the open data community and GODAN to convene discussions, partake in data analysis and build visuals for sector-specific problems. It is an opportunity for the global open data community to expand and catalyse the building of an open ecosystem and infrastructure for data. It is a space for all who have an idea of how to use open data, want to contribute to a compelling project, and learn how to analyse data.

In the spirit of celebrating this special day, our partner CTA has written a great post on open data for agriculture and nutrition (en Francais aussi), and the opportunities for open data to benefit rural communities [2]. Through collaboration and capacity building we can address the challenges of opening data and what is needed for effective analysis of data to improve food and nutrition security.

Check out the newly released discussion paper from Joined-Up Data Standards on Sustainable Development Goals 2: joining-up new standards for ending hunger, achieving food security and improved nutrition and promoting sustainable agriculture [3]. The discussion paper delineates the mapping between SDG2 targets and indicators and sector classifications used for data on financial flows that may impact these outcomes.
