Postponed - Data Revolution for Agriculture Sessions

Unfortunately we had to POSTPONE this session.

Key opportunities and challenges on open data for agriculture will be discussed in an open meeting. Join GODAN, CTA and Wageningen University for this first event to debate and share the last initiatives on open data to enhance agriculture and nutrition security. Join us!

Venue: Wageningen University (Impulse Building)

Date and time: Later in the Year.

The meeting will constitute a key opportunity to understand the potential of open agricultural/nutritional data for society and science; discuss how data-intensive science can lead to new discoveries to solve societal challenges; raise awareness on the use of open data and the use of the ‘FAIR’ data principles; emphasise the global initiatives and partnerships

Background

The quantity of data that is available is steadily increasing. In recent years, the open data movement has gained momentum among governments as well as in the public and private sector. Open data offers significant potential to benefit the agricultural rural communities. Open access to agricultural and nutritionally relevant data is vital for innovation in agriculture and value chain development driven by farmers, farmer organisations, researchers, extension experts, policy-makers, governments and other private sector and civil society stakeholders. At the same time, opening up agricultural data for improving food security and nutrition implies significant challenges. Statistical surveys are expensive, capacity is limited, methods and tools are not fully developed, and key agricultural and rural development actors are not yet fully engaged.
