The Webinar
GODAN Data Rights Advisor Foteini Zampati has been invited by the Delegation of the German Industry and Commerce in Nigeria (AHK Nigeria) to take part in a high-level panel Webinar on the societal and capacity development challenges of Data Driven Agriculture.
The panel event, entitled Data-driven agriculture: building enabling ecosystem and aligning solutions to local needs, will take place on Thursday 23 July, 2020 , at 13h00 WAT (13h00 BST).
New technological solutions combined with data driven farming practices are revolutionising the agriculture landscape, increasing efficiency, significantly improving farmers’ livelihood and helping conserve resources. While these solutions (precision farming, weather information and soil sensors, satellites and drones) generate valuable data that promote improve agricultural output, boost productivity and overall profitability, aligning them to local needs and context is equally important. On the other hand, sophisticated high-tech equipment, designs and/or systems may not be appropriate in rural areas, especially considering relatively low literacy rates.
The Webinar has two objectives:
- Building enabling and sustainable technological solutions, policy and resilient data ecosystem with smallholders in mind.
- Exploring the question of how critical data is to agriculture, food and nutrition security in Sub-Saharan Africa.
